A community dialogue is an interactive and participatory process of sharing information between people or groups of people aimed at reaching a common understanding and workable solution. The process of joint and participatory problem identification and analysis leads to modification and actions towards preferred future or goal of a particular activity. Unlike debates, we have realised that dialogues emphasizes listening and deepen understanding to develop common perspectives and goals that allows participants express their own views and interests.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While carrying out trainings, Uganda media women association puts the beneficiary and journalists together. This has worked in a way that journalists appreciate the kind of life the victims lead and the real issues that are affecting the victims. For example a project that was aimed at amplifying the voices of persons with disability on the radio trained both journalists and PWDs in human based approach under the same roof. The journalist who attended the training realized that persons with disability do not like the kind of names they use while reporting about them and they also got to know the kind of issues affecting them which they want the presenters to talk about not what the journalist had planned to talk about. In this approach journalists realized that a programme becomes more effective if it directed to the victim\u2019s needs.<br \/>\nThe principle of participation does not stop at the activity level but practiced from the decision making level where staff and management including the leadership interact and jointly make decisions.<br \/>\nBeing a media membership organization from both electronic and print media as well as CSOs this contributes to quick information dissemination to the target group (the marginalized and each brings in a wealth of knowledge and skills, which contributes to the capacity of the organization to handle different information needs and forms of dissemination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At Uganda Media Women\u2019s Association, we have found out that community dialogues are effective in redirecting the community and stakeholders.
